Hi All,

In the name of economy/engine wear and noise reduction.....can I put oil additive like wyns or slick 50 in the diesel 115 auto ?

Thanks

Absolutely not in my opinion. The correct consistency of oil is a well known major player in the performance and durability of the PD engine.

I don't know the ins and outs but it's something to do with it beeing the correct viscosity to operate the tappets/injectors.

Let me be clear about this - you risk a very poorly engine if you fail to use oil specified for the PD.

it has the correct PD oil. I just want to know if there is an additive that can make it better.

I use Slick 50 on my GTI's and have used Wynns in the past.

Thanks for the input.....help much appreciated.

i dont think you should put anything into the oil as its type specific for this engine - just make sure its a decent brand of oil in the first place and youll be fine.

Agreed - due to the special nature of the PD engine and the oil properties required, I would never risk adding anything to the oil or the fuel

ZX1 Lube grease is very good, works with engine oil for a better lube.

Ive used it in all my cars even my current 17 year old nissan pulsar gti-r lol..

As has pointed out - the PD engine is VERY oil specific.

Pity you don't have a PD to try it in for a few thousand miles then Steveoo

Engine oil additives are a bad idea - period. Make sure you use a reputable high quality engine oil, and one that meets 505.01 for the PD engine. I have never used engine oil additives and never will - our old Mercedes 190D has over 300,000 miles on it and has been run on plain simple Castrol GTD.

Not ALL engine additives are per se a bad idea.

Too much past evidence in other situations to contradict the scientific applications.

If all additives had a problem then all our modern engines might wear out at about 80,000 miles or so depending upon running conditions as they did if not running in optimum conditions.

Why do our modern Multigrade oils have additives even if they meet the required specs.

Modern FULLY synthetic oils contain buckets of additives and DO the job they are designed to do.

They are cheap enough if you source them well to change at recommended intervals ( Not extended) and you also do the required before switching off the engine.

i.e. at least let the engine come to a tickover or in the case of Heavy work allow the engine to idle for 1 or 2 minutes before switching off.

Additives are an expensive alternative to using FULLY synthetic oils. (NOT those with just a synthetic base).

I find adding a couple of mugfuls of sawdust quieten things considerably, also definitely has an effect on economy/engine wear..........

By 'additives', I meant those extra additives (such as Slick 50) added to the oil by the owner. I did not mean those used in the production of the lubricating oil by the oil manufacturers.
